Nestled against Sleeping Lion Mountain in the peaceful Davis Mountains of Far West Texas. The Victorian Rose , a West Texas, Victorian style accommodation welcomes visitors longing for the peace, quiet and tranquility of a time of long since passed. The Victorian Rose is within convenient walking distance of the village of Fort Davis and many of the local shops, restaurants and attractions.
The design, in the style of the officer’s homes at the Fort Davis National Historic Site, (West Texas Victorian) comfortably accommodates varied activities. The large home (4000 square feet.), was named Victorian Rose because of the extensive collection of European stained glass hanging from each window. Decidedly European in atmosphere, the Victorian Rose houses antiques, paintings, teapots and doll collections as well as music and books for guests’ enjoyment. Outside, in keeping with Europeans customs, is a lovely, welcoming fountain, an English rose garden, a full sized croquet court, horseshoes pit, “huachas” (washers to toss) and bocce ball.
Although only four blocks from the main street in the village, there is an abundance of deer, javelina hogs, raccoons, buzzards, white-winged dove, hummingbirds and other native wildlife to be seen.
Many European, United Kingdom and American guests have enjoyed leisurely stays here in a true West Texas setting and experienced life as it once was, in a less stressful, frantic time and place.
The Victorian Rose is a member of the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce.
